Sundance Journal

Out & About on Main Street

The Yukon hat rules!

As of this writing Sundance has one more day to go…closing with a Grand finale awards ceremony on Sunday.

Like the majority of Sundancers, I was there for the first week, having come home- finally, after hours stranded at the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport –yesterday, Friday that is, Jan. 28.

With all the hustlin’ and bustlin’, I had little time to file my blogs. I definitely needed the day yesterday to decompress- I arrived home at 6am. But for the next day or two, I’ll keep up my Sundance Journal as it all settles in….

THE SETTING:  Park City, Utah, home of the great Sundance Film Festival, is a weird cross between Woodstock and Rodeo Drive.  The center of Park City is Main Street, home to many of the area’s best restaurants, clubs and ultra-fashionable shops, where lush fur coats and teensy cocktail dresses co-exist amicably with ski and snow board apparel. It is THE place to be for celebrity-seeking gawkers, and anyone looking for late night-life. During the day, filmmaker lounges abound, hosting panels, talks, intimate concerts and industry get-togethers.  Situated on a steep hill, Main Street is surrounded by imminently ski-able mountains.  The bottom of Main Street even provides a lift so that skiiers can glide right off into a warm, comfy tavern in no time...

The year’s number one accessory is undeniably what I like to call the UBIQUITOUS YUKON FLAP HAT. You know the one… usually real or fake fur around the brim with earflaps that you can pin up or down.  Every conceivable variation is here from the deluxe $900 mink version to the down-home red plaid variety that seems to be de rigeur for anyone within 50 miles of Seattle.

Mine is fake fur brown and rain/snow proof and so incredibly warm, it has become my best friend. I will never see another Yukon hat without thinking of Sundance….

MEIRA HAS ONE TOO!
